Galindo Neighborhood, 78704
The Galindo neighborhood has remained somewhat anonymous compared to its more famous South Austin neighbors of Bouldin, Zilker, & Travis Heights – though you get the sense that this sits just fine with the Galindo population. Perhaps the relative obscurity can be attributed to its lack of well-known 78704 attractions/establishments, but the proximity to all of them (and getting closer everyday) mean Galindo is now on the radar.
The prevailing housing stock in the Galindo neighborhood is 50′s – 60′s single story ranches lending perfectly to the Atomic Ranch style. Some larger-scale new construction projects such as The Skyway, Sycamore Court, and Denizen 04 have recently sprung from the ground bringing an even more eclectic feel to the neighborhood.
At the Galindo neighborhood’s heart is South Austin Park, a 12 acre playground that hosts the 10 court South Austin Tennis Center, a recreation center, playground, sport courts/fields, and open green space. But to cross any of the border streets such as S 1st or Oltorf and you’ll find yourself at Torchy’s Tacos, Summermoon Coffee, Olivia, Black Sheep, or whatever fashionable food trailer that happens to be hooked up down S 1st.
